Methane leaks erode green credentials of natural gas
A
new study out by NOAA and the University of
Colorado at Boulder shows methane leakage from
gas drilling is much higher than the gas
industry claims, and is more
in line with the levels used in a Cornell study
that concluded that gas is no panacea for
climate change. While scientists concluded
years ago that leakage rates would need to be 2%
or less to help avoid catastrophic climate
change, the NOAA levels were many times that
percentage, going as high as 9%.
